Mangalgad (Kangori Fort)
Jawali, Raigad
If you are looking for a steep and storied fort in the Jawali region, Mangalgad, originally Kangorigad, is a great choice. The rugged 2-hour climb from Dudhanewadi ends at a narrow summit where the Kangori Devi temple sits on a rock platform. Shivaji Maharaj captured and renamed the fort, and the ruined defenses and rock-cut cisterns still mark its old role guarding the Jawali valley trade route. At 754 metres it is a proper workout. Best done in the cooler months.

How to reach
Take the Thane-Pimpalwadi ST bus to Dudhanewadi/Kangorigad stop. From Kangori Siddheshwar temple follow the field boundary route, gain the hill in 30-45 minutes and continue toward the western bastion and steep final approach; allow about two hours total.
Things to carry
The final approach is steep with a small rock patch and the shortcut is steeper. Avoid wet weather, descend before dark, keep away from ruined ramparts and use the clearer field-boundary route.
