Raikot Fort (Dhule)

Raikot, Kondaibari Ghat, Dhule district

moderate503 mAbout 1 hour from Raikot; 2 hours from MorkaranjOctober to February

If you are looking for a small watch fort in Dhule district, Raikot is a great choice. The triangular plateau above Kondaibari Ghat was built to monitor the old Surat-Burhanpur route, and a natural moat rings the hill. The climb from Raikot village takes about an hour, with a ruined bastion, pond, well and rock-cut steps at the top. The Makaddari valley drops away dramatically on three sides. Nandurbar is the nearest station, and October to February is the best window.

  • Natural moat and triangular plateau
  • Makaddari valley on three sides
  • Ruined bastion, pond and rock-cut steps

Use the Raikot village route from Kondaibari on the Dhule-Surat road for the easier approach, or the longer Morkaranj route via rock-cut steps and Makaddari valley.
