Dajipur, Kolhapur
If you are looking for a fort deep inside wildlife sanctuary country, Shivgad at Dajipur is a great choice. The remote hill fort in Kolhapur district once guarded the Fonda Ghat, and the approach runs through the forests of the Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary and across open plateau. Surviving bastion and wall remains mark the top. Kolhapur is the railhead. November to May covers the visiting window, and the bison country around it makes the drive in part of the adventure.
