Ambolgad Fort

Ambolgad, Rajapur, Ratnagiri district

easyOctober to February

If you are looking for a small coastal fort on the Ratnagiri coastline, Ambolgad Fort is a great choice. It stands near Nate in Rajapur taluka, built to keep watch over the old Musakaji port and the surrounding sea. The fort is largely in ruins now, but the walls, defensive moats and a square well are still visible, and the sea cliffs below are the real draw. It is an easy visit rather than a trek, so it works well as a stop on a Konkan drive. Combine it with the beaches and creeks around Rajapur for a full day.

  • Musakaji port watch position
  • Sea cliffs and defensive moats
  • Square well and ruined fort walls

Approach via Ratnagiri-Adivare-Nate-Ambolgad or Rajapur-Nate-Ambolgad; the fort stands near the Gagangiri Maharaj ashram.
