Mahim Fort
Mahim, Mumbai
If you are looking for one of Mumbai's oldest fort sites, Mahim Fort is a great choice. Built to guard Mahim Creek on the old trade route and later reconstructed by the British, its bastions, walls and carved pillars still stand above the water. The fort is heavily hemmed in by the city today, but the bones of the original structure are easy to read. It is barely 10 minutes from Mahim beach and Mahim Junction. October to February evenings are the nicest time to visit.
