Ajobagad
Dehene, Shahapur taluka, Thane district, Maharashtra
If you are looking for a peaceful one-day fort trek from Mumbai or Thane, Ajobagad is a great choice. The fort stands at about 3,000 feet in the hills around Shahapur, with Dehene as the usual base village. The route is of moderate grade and is far quieter than Mahuli or Sandhan Valley nearby. The top gives long views over the Kalsubai ridges, and the surroundings turn very green in the monsoon. October to February is the most comfortable time to go. The summit rises to about 1,375 metres above sea level, so expect a long, steep day. Ajoba is among the higher peaks of the Sahyadri, rising above Dehene village in Shahapur taluka, and the climb is usually done as a long one-day trek.
