Ratangad Trek
At. samrad post. Ghatgar. ta.Akole. Dist.A, GMGM+C93, Samrad, Maharashtra 422604, India (Ahilyanagar)
If you are looking for a jewel of a fort near Bhandardara, Ratangad is a great choice. The 400-year-old fort rises to 1,297 metres above Samrad village in the Sahyadris, with a natural rock cavity at the top called the Eye of the Needle. The climb through forests and past waterfalls is a moderate day trek, about 136 km from Mumbai with Igatpuri as the nearest station. October to February is the classic window, though the monsoon approach is beautiful too. The views over the Bhandardara backwaters are superb.
