Nivati Fort
Nivati, Sindhudurg district
If you are looking for a quiet coastal fort in Sindhudurg, Nivati Fort is a great choice. Built by Shivaji Maharaj to guard the sea route between Karli Creek and Vengurla, it keeps its moat, a bastion and surviving ramparts. From the walls you look over Bhogve beach and out to the Burnt Rocks lighthouse. The visit is easy, with Kudal as the nearest station, and Nivati's rocky coast is beautiful on its own. October to February is the best window.
