Songir Fort (Dhule)
Songir, Dhule district
If you are looking for a quick fort stop north of Dhule, Songir is a great choice. This small trade-route watch fort takes barely 10 minutes to climb, but packs in a ruined gateway from 1575 with an inscription, pillar remains and a very deep historic well. The unusual fourteen-sided water pond is the detail everyone remembers. Dhule station is close by, so it fits easily into a North Maharashtra circuit. October to February is the comfortable window.
